John 8:36: Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

Thought: Nobody but Jesus

Reflection: Not just free at last, but free instead and free forever

MLK gave a moving speech that intoned “free at last, free at last, thank God Almighty I am free at last”. That was a statement about being free to live the American dream – fair housing, good education and living-wage jobs.

Jesus moved and embodied that sentiment in offering his life for an eternal freedom. This assures us that when we give our lives to Him, we are free. We not free at last, but free indeed. We are not just free at last, but free instead and free forever. We are free in Jesus in place of all the freedoms we think we have on this earth. We are free from the bondage to earthly desires, accomplishments, and acquisitions.

The freedom that Jesus paid for and gifted us with includes life everlasting, abundance, peace, joy, gentleness, kindness, goodness and so much more – packed down tight and overflowing. These exceed anything that this world has to offer.

No one, no thing, no place can offer His freedom. His freedom endures with us even now. He made the sacrifice of his life in spite of our misguided worship, obedience, and love. He offered this to us instead of the evil, violent, hateful, acrimonious and vengeful events and actions the world has to offer and enslave us with.

Open you mind, your heart and and your understanding of His offer of eternal life so we can join Him in glory.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I want to be free. Free from lust of the eyes, lust of the flesh and the pride of life’s accomplishments and acquisitions. Thank you Lord Jesus for taking my sins upon You so that I can truly be free instead, rather just free at last. I pray and give thanks in the name of the one who was free always and who died so I can be free too – Jesus the Christ, Amen.
